ONE AllRatings reads all ratings and reviews from all review sites so you don’t have to. Then we remove non-customer scores, we weight newer scores more than old ones and we downweight less trustworthy review sites and companies that game the system. We give you a super-composite star rating score that makes you smarter. And we give you two additional scores, a key document score for license and insurance and a company report score including essential profile articles, job photos and guarantees. Choose a ONE AllRatings CERTIFIED if you want a roofer that is highly rated for STARS, KEY DOCS and REPORT and is backed by our ONE AllRatings CERTIFIED Performance Guarantee.

ONE AllRatings gives you a total ratings score based on all the available ratings because we believe that all is better than some. Our unique process is optimized for accuracy and recentcy, combining customer ratings from all sources, giving priority weighting to more trustworthy and recent reviews, removing reviews from non-customers, and penalizing bad actors who try to game the review-site system. We combine each company’s review score with verified license and insurance documentation, photos, a super-review, and other company details to give each company a total score. You get smarter, and you get a contractor you can trust.

This certification ensures you're starting with a list of trusted, high-quality professionals.

Start with Research

Once you’ve narrowed down your list, it’s time to ask each contractor essential questions to gauge their expertise, reliability, and suitability for your project. Here are the crucial questions to include:

Verify that the contractor is licensed and insured to perform roofing work in your area. ONE AllRatings certification adds trust by ensuring a proven track record of quality work and customer satisfaction.

Are you licensed, insured, and have you been ONE AllRatings certified?

Experience is essential in roofing. A long-standing presence in the community usually means a solid reputation and understanding of local building codes and climate conditions.

How long have you been in business in this area?

The contractor should recommend the best services and materials, such as roof repairs, replacement, metal roofing, cool roofing, or eco-friendly options. A ONE AllRatings Roofing Contractor will have the expertise to suggest the best solutions for your needs.

Inquire about the roofing brands the contractor uses, and ensure they're certified to install these brands for warranty validity.

What roofing brands do you install, and are they covered by manufacturer warranties?

References from past clients provide valuable insight into the contractor’s reliability, quality, and customer service.

Do you have a list of recent references with projects similar to mine that I can call?

Ensure the estimate includes all costs, and the contract clearly outlines the scope of work, payment terms, and timelines.

Will you provide me with a written estimate and contract?

Who is responsible for getting any permits that are needed—the contractor or the customer?

Ensure the team has experience, and clarify if the contractor's employees or subcontractors will perform the work.

Who will do the actual work, and how much experience do they have with projects like mine?

If subcontractors are used, ensure they are also licensed and insured to maintain quality across all aspects of the project.

Do you subcontract out any part of the work? If so, who are your subcontractors, and are they licensed and insured?

Key Questions to Ask Your Roofing Contractor

After gathering answers from each contractor, compare their responses and estimates. Look beyond price to consider experience, reputation, warranties, and customer service. A ONE AllRatings Roofing Contractor is likely to offer the best combination of quality, reliability, and peace of mind.

What to Ask

Choosing the right roofing contractor is crucial for ensuring that your roof is durable, well-installed, and able to protect your home for years to come. While every contractor may offer different options and levels of service, you should expect a certain standard of quality and professionalism. Here’s a guide to what a top-notch roofing contractor should provide, with an emphasis on selecting a highly-rated ONE AllRatings Roofing Contractor to guarantee the best results.

What to Expect from Your Roofing Contractor: A Homeowner's Guide

A reputable roofing contractor should provide high-quality materials and skilled labor that meet or exceed industry standards. ONE AllRatings Roofing Contractors are known for providing honest appraisals that consider both current needs and long-term roof performance.

What a Contractor Should Provide You

Even after carefully vetting and choosing a roofing contractor, problems can still arise during your project. While hiring a highly-rated ONE AllRatings Roofing Contractor reduces the likelihood of issues, it's essential to know how to handle any challenges that might occur. Here’s a guide to managing potential problems with your roofing contractor to ensure your investment is protected and your project stays on track.

How to Handle Issues with Your Roofing Contractor: A Homeowner's Guide

A well-drafted contract is your first line of defense against misunderstandings and disputes. It should clearly outline the responsibilities and rights of both parties, including the scope of work, timelines, materials, and payment terms. If a problem arises, review your contract carefully, as minor misunderstandings can often be resolved by referring to the agreed-upon terms.

Start with Your Contract

If concerns arise regarding materials, workmanship, or project timelines, address them with your contractor or foreperson as soon as possible. Early communication helps prevent issues from escalating. A reputable ONE AllRatings Roofing Contractor will be willing to discuss your concerns and work toward a resolution.

Address Issues Immediately

Keep detailed documentation of any issues, including photos and records of all communications with your contractor. This documentation can be valuable if further action is needed, serving as evidence in case of a complaint or legal action.

Document Everything

While frustrations may arise, it’s important to handle the situation calmly and professionally. Avoid blaming or escalating tensions. Clearly explain the problem and work towards a solution with the site manager or contractor, escalating to higher management if necessary.

Stay Calm and Professional

If the issue is severe, such as a safety concern or major deviation from the agreed-upon work, you may need to ask the contractor to temporarily stop work. This allows time to find a resolution but should be done with caution, as it can impact the overall project timeline.

Consider Temporarily Stopping Work

Terminating a contract should only be considered for serious issues, as it can lead to legal complications. Before proceeding, thoroughly document the issues and make sincere efforts to resolve them. Consulting a legal expert before taking this step may be beneficial.

Be Cautious with Contract Termination

As a homeowner, you are also bound by the contract you signed. This means making payments and fulfilling your obligations as outlined in the agreement. If problems arise, address them with the contractor to find a mutually beneficial solution.

Understand Your Responsibilities

If you have concerns about the work, consider seeking advice from a local building inspector or another expert. Their objective assessment can help determine whether the work is being done correctly and what issues need addressing.

Seek Expert Advice

As a last resort, if all other efforts to resolve the issue have failed, you may need to file a complaint with your state’s contractor licensing board or the attorney general. This step should be taken only when it's clear that the contractor is not fulfilling their contractual obligations or violating industry standards.

Filing a Complaint
